There can be a possibility that symptoms are in atypically or there are no symptoms at all. Other examinations can also be done to know the exact cause of herpes.

Another test to determine the herpes is viral isolation and culture. This test generally shows correct result. If sores are available then this test is very effective. The result of viral culture determines the main location of infected virus and shows different between HSV-1 & HSV-2.

The Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) also makes a difference between HSV-1 & HSV-2. However, PCR is more sensitive in compare to viral culture that can present wrong result. Any specific non type blood test has Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). This test can determine the symptoms and infection of herpes but it can’t make a difference between 2 types.
