Neurologist Dr. Lisa Bateman to Speak About ÂWomen and Epilepsy in Vancouver
(PRWEB) July 20, 2003
Vancouver, BC (PRWEB) July, 2003 Â Women living with epilepsy finally have a forum to discuss concerns about managing the symptoms of epilepsy while safeguarding their health. Community neurologist Dr. Lisa Bateman will lead an open-ended discussion about fertility, reproduction, hormones and seizure medications on July 23 from 7pm to 9pm at BC Epilepsy in Vancouver.
The lecture by Dr. Lisa Bateman is hosted by BC Epilepsy as part of its ÂSpeaking of Epilepsy summer lecture series, designed to educate the public about epilepsy and provide resources to the 40,000 people in BC living with epilepsy.
ÂBC Epilepsy is very much a community-driven organization, says Pam Gill, Acting Executive Director, Âand in the last four years our members have emphasized the need for education to demystify epilepsy as well as the desire to connect with other people living with epilepsy.Â
In response, BC Epilepsy has developed new programming and service initiatives such as Partners in Teaching, which will deliver epilepsy awareness workshops to 457 elementary schools by December, and the Speaking of Epilepsy summer lecture series. This series will educate both the public and people with epilepsy on the range of healthcare and lifestyle choices available to people living with epilepsy.
BC EpilepsyÂs Speaking of Epilepsy summer lecture series features talks on ÂTraditional Chinese Medicine (July 9), ÂAsk a Neurologist (July 15), ÂWomen and Epilepsy (July 23), ÂAnti-epileptic Medications (July 30), ÂDisability Benefits (Aug 6) and ÂIntroducing Reflexology (Aug 13).
The Speaking of Epilepsy summer lecture series will be held at the BC Epilepsy office at 120 Â 535 West 10th Avenue (off Cambie), Vancouver on July 9, July 15, July 23, August 6 and August 13 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Each lecture is $ 10 for the public and free to BC Epilepsy members and volunteers.
